The Dos and Don’ts of Getting a Healthy Nights Sleep
Those of you that are extremely dedicated to living a healthy life style by making sure you eat the proper foods while partaking in cardiovascular activities, give yourselves a pat on the back. Unfortunately, the majority of us don’t get a healthy night sleep because we like to be very festive after working hours. Most people do not realize how detrimental sleep is to living a healthy life style. Without the proper rest, eating and working out mean absolutely nothing. Studies have shown that the people who receive longer amounts of sleep at night are more productive throughout the day, as well as retain muscle mass longer than someone who sleeps less. These same people may also be able to perform longer sexually. Furthermore, by not allowing your body the sufficient amount of rest each night, it could lead to other things such as insomnia, depression, impotence, lack of confidence, strain on your relationship with other, aggression, mood swings and increased amounts of stress.
Well, you are probably asking yourself what can I do or not do to insure I get more sleep. Research has shown that there are not really many special foods that make you sleep; but there are things that you can do to insure that you might have a better night sleep. The best thing to do is to not drink to much liquid before you go to bed. Urinating can simply change you sleep pattern; in addition, drinking will not allow you a sufficient amount of sleep at night. Make sure that you avoid heavy and fatty meals a couple of hours before you go to bed. If you feel that you have to eat something try to eat something light, and make sure it is several hours before you rest. Do not load up on the carbohydrates and sugars throughout the day, this might cause you body to be over stimulated; and naturally you body works to rid itself of these two things. Avoid drinking alcohol and anything with caffeine in it. You do not want your heart rate to go up several hours before bed because your metabolism will over work itself once again, which can cause you to be awoken suddenly at night.
Caffeine could cause a huge problem if you are not monitoring the amounts of it you consume each day. I know a guy who could drink several cups of coffee each day, even several at night; and he never had any problems with sleeping as a result. Depending on the individual, caffeine can affect the hours of sleep you receive each night. Some people can have caffeine and it might affect their sleep if they consumed it up to four to six hours before they try to rest. Since every person’s immune system is different, caffeine has its different affects. Hence, the safest advice that I could give you is, try not to have too much caffeine throughout the day.
These are just some of the many things that should and should not be done to insure that you receive an adequate amount of sleep each night.
